Our Civil Practice

Civil Disputes Require Legal Clarity & Strategic Precision

Civil litigation in the UAE encompasses a broad range of personal and commercial disputes governed by the UAE Civil Code, Federal Law and local court regulations. Whether you are pursuing a debt, contesting a contract, enforcing a judgment or seeking compensation — the quality of your legal representation determines the outcome.

Our founder's experience across every tier of the UAE judiciary — including six years at the Court of Cassation — gives our civil litigation team an understanding of how civil claims are assessed, what evidence courts find persuasive, and when to push for trial versus settlement.

Common Questions

Civil Litigation FAQ

The general limitation period for civil claims under the UAE Civil Code is 15 years, but shorter periods apply to specific claim types — including 1 year for labour claims, 3 years for commercial claims and specific periods for tort actions. We advise on time limits at the initial consultation.

Yes. UAE courts can grant precautionary attachment orders ("hajar ihtiyati") to freeze a defendant's assets before or during a case. This prevents the opposing party from dissipating assets before judgment. We regularly file these applications and know what evidence courts require to grant them.

Yes, subject to conditions. UAE courts can recognise and enforce foreign civil judgments under Article 235 of the UAE Civil Procedure Code or under bilateral enforcement treaties. We assess enforceability on a case-by-case basis based on the country and judgment type.

For certain dispute types (particularly family and commercial matters), the UAE has introduced mandatory mediation or conciliation before court proceedings. We guide clients through these requirements efficiently and, where mediation is genuinely useful, help achieve settlements without incurring full litigation costs.
